OK, we don't usually get involved...

In Russian politics.  Not even since the wall came down.  But we had to stop and wonder about the latest news where Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov is potentially going to challenge Vladimir Putin in the March presidential elections.  What raises our eyebrows? 

We still have trouble with the idea that Russians have presidential elections in March.  We have trouble voting when there's a lot of rain in this country, but Winter in Russia has got to be killer for turnout.

Second, how the hell did Russian Billionaires show up? Where did they make their money?  This guy owns the New Jersey Nets basketball team?  Apparently he made his fortune in the last 20 years, primarily in un-regulated privatization of state controlled industries.  Kids, that means that when the Soviet Union fell, someone had to pick up the pieces and it might as well have been this guy.

We're going to have to rethink that whole "America, land of opportunity" thing.
