1972...

After nine years of combat, the US withdrew the last of it's ground troops from Vietnam thirty-six years ago today.  Never quite a war for the government, this "Police Action" finally fully failed as congress threatened a bill of impeachment against the president and indicated it would cut off all funding once U.S. forces had withdrawn. 

Sound at all familiar? 

Of course, Iraq isn't Vietnam.  It's much drier.
