What's with the boots?

Everyone has something to say about Superman Returns.  The last movie bombed.  Twenty years later, a sequel (that's gotta be a record.) He looks too young.  Lois Lane with a child by Perry White's son? Has Kevin Spacey jumped the career shark?

None of that is important.

We want to know... what's with those boots?

Did the Carson from Queer Eye get a hold of Supes and convince him that wrap-around faux ostrich gaucho boots were just the right thing to scream new and improved visitor from another planet?

Hmm.  It would go a long ways to explaining the plot twist about Clark Kent having gone missing for five years...
