The Subtle Noises of Functional Illiteracy

Earlier this week there was yet another home made video love letter from Al-Qaeda, this time from Ayman al-Zawahri their second in command. Another frothing "There will be no salvation until you withdraw from our land, stop stealing our oil and resources and end support for infidel, corrupt rulers..." Same old same old.

Bush responded saying "this al-ka-dah guy, their #2 guy you know, is an apostle of an ideology that is dark, dim and backwards." Gee thanks W, when we want dim and backwards, we know you tha' man.

What makes us laugh here is old "readin is for sissies" Bush falling over himself trying to verbally identify the guy. It's far beyond his meager language skills to spend any time learning to say Ayman al-Zawahri. And if pressed on it, he'd probably say something hick-ish like "don matter what his name is, his name's gonna be mud" or similar.

But statements like "That #2 guy in Al-Qaeda" are for the guy who pumps your gas, or maybe grade school pot-heads. "The Leader of the Free World" should spend a little time getting familiar with it beyond reviewing Chevron's maps to the oil reserves.  We'd pay serious money to see Bush playing Scategories or Trivial Pursuit with someone like James Carville (who made Bobby Novak cry like a little girl last week, but that's another story...)

Color commentary from that Trivial Pursuit Game:  Carville, with all his pie slices in place, is making another run at the center hub of the board. Novak, one piece in place for knowing that blue is a primary color has just dropped the die and is down on all fours looking for it.  And George, no slices and making a few calls to asociates about looking into the Parker Brothers personal dealings with terrorists...
