Does anyone still believe...
That sports figures are still supposed to inspire youths to be better people? In what fantasy land does that still apply? It's gone by the wayside with mega-salaries, drug scandals, and star treatment. The whole sports thing would be much healthier and easier for kids to understand if we were just truthful about it. "No, you don't want to emulate these thugs. They're muscle-bound misanthropic self-aggrandizing gladiators pitting themselves against each other in the arena for our entertainment. Love of the game gave way to love of the buck years ago. Any pretext of charity or community is either ordered by a judge, or part of a tax write off. Now shut up and drink your beer, the game's starting."
